A few months ago, I was chatting with Ryan Panchadsaram (former Deputy CTO of the USA under President Obama) about what technologists could do about climate change. He’s been thinking about the levers for saving the planet in the book he co-authored with John Doerr: Speed & Scale.
Ryan astutely pointed out that the biggest levers are practically all policy related. Regulating industry, incentivizing climate-friendly choices, and funding the solutions that the world needs, often come down to public policy.
So, can designers play a role in crafting better public policy? We think so.
This week, guest author Eniola Ayedun explains what designers can do to support politicians, governments, and civil society to drive change. This is the high leverage design work that few people notice, but which creates foundational change in the world.
