When I left Google Ventures to work on global public health, I was a bit terrified. I had lots of experience building tech in Silicon Valley, but I was very afraid of walking blindly into a totally different type of environment, with very different values. A few books were very helpful for understanding this new world — in particular, Mountains Beyond Mountains about the NGO Partners in Health and Epic Measures, which explained how many health organizations measure the burden of diseases in countries.
