In many countries, LinkedIn is still the best place to find job listings. But it’s a swamp. There are millions of jobs listed and it can be hard to find a job that actually stands a chance of making a difference in the world. With a few simple tricks, you can find a job to be proud of.

We wrote a handy guide for using LinkedIn’s new AI job search tool (still in beta) for finding great roles. It still takes some manual effort, but we’ve found the search to be quite efficient to find roles at for-profit, nonprofit, and public sector roles that are good for the world.

Let us know on Linkedin if the job search tool is working for you or if you have tricks for finding roles that other people should know about.

Podcast interview

Last week, Daniel was interviewed on the d.mba podcast about the “Job Rank” Framework that we published on the Hard Problems website. Yeah, that’s a hilarious photo that the team chose for the video’s cover image ;)

New book review

We just finished reading Why Design is Hard by Scott Berkun and Bryan Zug. It's such a good read and is full of actionable advice for designers who want to build their influence and ship great design work.

I particularly appreciated how pithy the book is. In a world where most authors seem to go around in circles to fill pages, Scott and Bryan pack a lot of useful ideas into a crisp 100 pages.

The book is useful for any designer, but I think it particularly applies to people who are working on hard problems in healthcare, climate change, and government. The book shows how the way you communicate design matters and how cross-collaboration builds your influence. In these fields, these skills are the key to creating solutions that actually solve users' needs.

Recently on our job board

We added about 100 new jobs to the job board in the last week. These ones are especially good:

  • Senior UX Designer at Cedars-Sinai, one of the most respected healthcare organizations in the USA, which is also a nonprofit.

  • Senior Product Designer at the ACLU (the American Civil Liberties Union), which is one of the most important groups defending rights of Americans.

  • User Researcher at the UK Health Security Agency, a critical part of the public health system in the UK.

  • Product Manager (Digital Public Health) at the eGov foundation in India, developing public health tools to be used by millions of Indians.

  • Graphic Designer at the UN International Organization for Migration in Uganda, is a contract position at a key agency.

  • Website and Digital Advisor at the Climate Council in Australia is a chance to work on important climate change design.

  • Senior Product Designer at Zipline at their facility just south of SF (I’ve been there!) is a great role to work on drone delivery of critical medical products.
