Hard Problems Job Roundup

Opportunities for technologists in climate and public health

It’s a bizarre time to start a non-profit to help more technologists tackle the world’s 'hard problems.' There has been a lot of doom and gloom since January — USAID gutted, funding yanked from many social good projects, US Centers for Disease Control dismembered, and a lot of great technologists from the US government are out on the street. This doesn't just affect America, but has knock-on effects globally. Many people feel the effects somehow, either financially or psychologically.

I was recently talking to my twin brother about our feelings of existential doom. Reading the news puts each of us into a  spiral of despair. To be honest, I haven't figured out how to dodge the spiral, but what keeps me going is reaching for something I can do to make the world even a little bit better. It's why I left Big Tech eight years ago to work in public health tech at Resolve to Save Lives as my day job. The work is hard and often frustrating, but at least I know why I get out of the bed each morning. It also helps to remember that countless people worldwide are also striving to make their corner of the world just a little bit better too.

At Hard Problems we aim to do our part to inspire and help people find new opportunities to make a longer-term, positive impact. Over the next few months, we will share exciting job opportunities that we see around the world. And, we'll signpost where we're finding those roles so you can search too. For instance, check out Tech Jobs for Good, the 80,000 Hours Job Board, the ICT4D Jobs Newsletter, and Climate Base. Where else should we be looking for roles? See below for some of the best opportunities we've come across recently.
